What we do

Sunny Hill Association is a space of cooperation, innovation, and supportive environment for research, education and active practice of sustainable development. It cooperates with competent individuals and organisations and is a member of ECOLISE, European Network of Community-led Initiatives for Sustainable Europe.
The integral part of the project is Sunny Hills of Istria cooperative in the village Hrvoji and in the nearby abandoned houses. In 2019 we bought one more house (a ruin) and we will renovate it in a sustainable way.
The hamlet MoÄŤunigi would be renovated in the same, traditional Istrian style, but that will take some time due to administrative obstacles.
For now, we operate from a house in Hrvoji which we renovated between 2014 and 2018.
THE GUIDING PRICIPLE
The guiding principle of Sunny Hill is cohabiting and collaborating in the living social laboratory.
Our core values are simplicity, joy, community, care and diversity.
We use appropriate technologies to build a home for our sustainable community, in order to revive potentials of Istria in harmony with tradition and sustainability.
Living together in luxurious simplicity we are opening the space for each individual to flourish.
We are one of the partners in ERASMUS+ funded CLIPS – Community Learning Incubator Programme for Sustainability and we’re offering mentoring and counselling to emerging sustainable initiatives.

How to join

In October 2019 we have reset the project and changed the membership scheme. There are four possible memberships: investor-user, investor, user, and supporter. Normally aspiring members from investor-user membership spend enough time with the community so we get to know each other — at least 1 year. That’s the membership form for people with the most commitment and highest decision making power. Investors support the project with real-estate, goods, tools or funds. Users pay lower membership, but they pay higher rents and have decision-making power only in their domain. Supporters pay a small fee and support the project. Our meetings are in English.

Social Media Intern for GEN International Hours: Up to 20/month, flexible around your schedule and availability Location: Remote, work with Eva Goldfarb Focus: Instagram + LinkedIn (TikTok if you’re into it!) Hi! I’m Eva, and I run social media for GEN International — the global network connecting ecovillages, intentional communities, and regenerative culture-builders across every continent. I’m looking for a co-conspirator to help me tell the stories of the people quietly building the future: off-grid villages in the Philippines, permaculture farms in Senegal, urban cohousing projects in Berlin, elders passing down land wisdom in the Andes. It’s a wildly rich, wildly underrepresented world, and I want more people to fall in love with it the way I have. What you’ll actually do: Dream up and create content for Instagram and LinkedIn (reels, carousels, stories, captions that don’t sound like a corporate newsletter) Dig into our global network and turn your findings into stories people want to share Pitch your own ideas. If there’s a series, a theme, a format, or a corner of the network that lights you up, that’s what I want you to focus on. What we’re looking for: A natural storyteller, someone who can spot the human thread in a project update or a photo from a faraway village Genuinely curious about ecovillages, sustainability, intentional community, regenerative living Self-motivated and communicative; this is a flexible, trust-based role Why this role: This isn’t a “post 3x a week and don’t ask questions” internship. You’ll have real creative freedom to work on what excites you, learn how a global grassroots network tells its story, and build a portfolio full of meaningful, purpose-driven content. Plus you’ll be talking to people living some of the most interesting, intentional lives on the planet. If storytelling for a better world sounds like your kind of fun, let’s talk.
