Supported by the German Foreign Ministry, the GEN Africa Conference took place during the first week of December 2016 at the Ghana Permaculture Institute. Representatives and delegates from more than 20 countries gathered to share experiences, present their projects and work on the development of the Pan-African Ecovillage Development Programme, promoting initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, restoring the environment, achieving resilience in response to the climate change challenges, and helping implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Poverty in Africa resides only in the minds of its inhabitants”, and GEN Africa is aware of the richness and resilience of their societies, and thus promotes an ambitious program of transforming its rural communities into eco-communities or ecovillages, a model to combat the effects of climate change, ensure food sovereignty of their populations and the proliferation of social enterprises that promote the creation of local economy to avoid the migration of its inhabitants to the cities or to other continents.
