Since 1991, a growing network of alternative projects from all over Mexico has been gathering annually, bringing together hundreds of representatives from different complementary movements and experiences, from Mexico and other countries on the planet.
For the last 21 years we have held twelve Vision Councils (Consejos), with people coming from indigenous nations, emerging intentional communities and ecovillages, healers, permaculturists, artists, social activists, youth, children and elders, sharing an eco-encampment for a week that we have named a “Temporary Peace EcoVillage.”
The design of these gatherings, self-organized in seven or more “Consejos,” has allowed participants to experience a sustainable lifestyle in all of its different aspects, to meet and share with people with similar and very different lifestyles, and to have access to dozens of activities such as workshops, ceremonies, plenaries, collective practical jobs, healings, multicultural events, and to realize what a community is or can be.
The Mexican “Consejos” have become one of the main events in this country to help strengthen the networks across bioregional, national and international boundaries.
The gatherings are now replicated in different countries of Central and South America thanks to the work done over the past 13 years by the Rainbow Peace Caravan – a “mobile ecovillage and learning and living center” supported by GEN and ENA (Ecovillages North America) – which planted the seeds in 17 countries from this continent.
C.A.S.A, the “Council of Sustainable Settlements from the Americas” emerged from this process, and many of the bioregional gatherings that are now happening in this part of the world have adopted many of the elements that the “Consejos” have been practicing for 21 years.
This year, from the 10th-17th November, we are organizing the “Call of Quetzalcoatl”, our 13th Vision Council, and we are extending this invitation to participate to all of you and to the many different social networks that share the wide spectrum of visions that are part of the creation of a more sustainable, just and peace oriented planetary society.
We will continue sending signs by different means, and we will be most honoured to receive those of you coming from other continents and cultures, especially those of you who can share your experiences in the magnificent place where the “Consejo” will take place this year: Temictla, a special designed camp that is part of the ecovillage Nierika, in the state of Mexico, a couple of hours away from the international airports of Toluca and México City.
