Keuruu Ecovillage was founded in 1997. The farm of 50 hectares and nearly 30 buildings is owned by Keuruu Ecovillage Association, the purpose of which is to promote ecologically sustainable way of life, to build a communal village life based on the principles of tolerance and openness, and to support biodiversity of environment and development of renewable energies.
Ecovillage has about 30 residents, who share an interest in ecological and communal life. The age range is from 4 to 75 years. All Ecovillage residents pay rent for their rooms and for food and volunteer daily for tasks needed to maintain Ecovillage infrastructure and develop Ecovillage life. The community is religiously and politically independent.
