In a time of great transition, change, and uncertainty our organization is evolving in order to adapt to how we can best serve the collective. To reflect this powerfully and align what is on the outside with what is on the inside, we have redesigned our visual identity.
The metamorphosis of the butterfly is a process that occurs in nature that stretches the realms of possibility. Within the chrysalis, caterpillar cells that have been dormant called “imaginal cells” start the process of creating a new form and structure.
At first these Imaginal cells – the seeds of future potential, which contain the blueprint of a flying creature—operate independently as single-cell organisms. They are regarded as threats and are attacked by the caterpillar’s immune system. But they persist, multiply, and connect with each other.
The Imaginal cells form clusters and clumps, begin resonating at the same frequency and passing information back and forth until they hit a tipping point. They begin acting not as discrete individual cells but as a multi-cell organism – and a butterfly is born. Metamorphosis is complete.
Just like the imaginal cells, ecovillages have been seeding visions of regenerative lifestyles and communities around the world while surrounded by growing social and environmental chaos. And, while successful in their own regions, ecovillages are now being called to come together to play a larger role in the great transformation occurring on our planet now.
The Global Ecovillage Network stands ready to deliver as we innovate, empower, educate, and advocate for a regenerative world in which we can all flourish together.
We serve as an innovative think tank on the topic of regenerative community development; we empower ecovillages by engaging them in our global network and consulting on local projects; we educate about best practices through our redesigned website, monthly newsletters and a growing array of programs; and we advocate for community-led implementation of the SDGs and Climate Agreements from the local to national levels.
GEN Catalyzes Communities for a Regenerative World
Without further ado, we would like to introduce to you, the new GEN logo. This modern, iconic symbol tells the story of GEN’s evolution while retaining the DNA of organization. The butterfly wings represent transformation, beauty and flight with the addition of a lotus flower blossoming at the center enclosed by a circle representing the globe.
The Lotus emerges directly out of mud, creating beauty and life from the dark, murky depths. Similarly, ecovillages all around the world are demonstrations of radical acts of rebirth blossoming through obstacles and odds, flowering into something beautiful. The continuous, interconnecting lines represent the network as a united, cohesive organism.
This new brand expression allows the GEN regions to express their unique personality while remaining connected to the shared mission of the larger organization.
