We are a family with mixed nationalities with two young kids (4 and 8), about to establish a regenerative farm in Kopaniec, in the Izery mountains of south-west Poland (2 hrs drive from Wroclaw, Prague, and Dresden, 20min drive from Jelenia Góra). We are committed to agroecology, sustainable building techniques and environmental regeneration of the Earth. We call this project “Deep Roots” because we believe in the need of any long-lasting culture to be anchored in the land, giving us a space to learn about the place we live, die and get recycled back into this dance of life.
We intend to develop the Deep Roots into a fertile, beyond organic, abundant landscape of ponds, productive trees, perennial gardens, holistically managed pastures, and living structures built from natural resources. We aim to establish a model polyculture system for soil regeneration based on holistic management, keyline design, permaculture, and water-wise landscaping and build different types of ecological houses. An integral part of our work is outreach, education, encouragement, and research. This center for regenerative community is meant to become a place for shared learning, experimenting with new ideas, adding new tools to one’s “toolbox”, and exploring ones’ potential and creativity whilst serving the land. We’re dedicated to providing unique, best-practice courses, workshops, and counsel to give people and communities skills and confidence to create their own resilient systems and grow their own roots.
Membership & Visitors
- Current members: 4
- Open to new members
- Rarely open to visitors
New members of the community will acquire private ownership title to one of the buildable plots (1500-2500 m2) and the right to access to the non-buildable part of the property (meadows, stream, forest) where any future investments would be limited to environmental friendly ones. Membership will be bound with responsibilities towards the land and community itself, therefore in case of leaving the community, any future buyer will need to endorse the same rules and get approval of existing members after a trial period.
We will start building most probably at the beginning of 2020, so we have a year to form a group and get to know each other. We hope to make a final decision on first project members till summer 2020 and we assume that in order to make informed decision anyone truly interested would spend at least 6 months in the close area in order to find out whether it’s a good fit for everyone.
If you are interested, please send us a letter of interest along with answers to these 4 questions:
Why do you want to join the project described above?
How would you describe yourselves (each member of the family – background, interests, passions, etc.)?
What skills you have that could be beneficial for the land and for the community?
Why do you think you/your family would be a great part of this forming, land-based group?

Dear Deep Roots family,
I am Tejaswi, a documentary filmmaker, an environmental educator from India. I am currently living in Barcelona, where I am pursuing a course in Agroecology from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
I worked and lived with peasant communities in the drylands of South India, where I learned principles of agroecology and how knowledge is born in struggle. As a storyteller and environmental educator, I learned from rural India to urban consumers thriving to get away from consumerism and unsustainable lifestyles.
In 2010, I started a community organization and my father to promote sustainable living through ecological consciousness and green education. Our latest initiative, ‘Beyond Organic, ‘ which connects ecological farmers with urban consumers, has helped us secure safe food for consumers and livelihoods for small farmers.
Taking a step ahead, some of us like-minded individuals concerned about the environment decided to explore community living by building eco-villages. I have decided to travel and live with communities in eco-villages in this background, contribute and learn from their processes. GEN network comes to me like a fresh breeze of hope in my journey of exploring initiatives of good practices in Europe. I find Deep roots, values, and vision close to what some of our friends have been living with.
I am returning to India in August, and I am writing with the hope to come and live with you for 2-3 weeks in July, help in building processes in whatever capacity I can. Please let me know if that’s possible.
Thank you,
Tejaswi Dantuluri

Hi,
I am Marta. I have an education in environmental engineering and chemistry. Since finishing my education I have been obsessed with finding a truly sustainable way of living. I have a vast experience and have been called a Jack of all trades. Have recently moved back to Europe after having lived in US for 14 yrs. I only care about nature and live for animals and humans, and feel truly lost in the curent society. Would live to join a community of people who have a similar appreciation for nature,
All the best,
Marta
