Egalitarian ecovillage knows that our strength lies in cooperation, not competition. We are looking to co-create a community based on egalitarian principles to provide an alternative culture to a patriarchal dominant culture manifesting as neo-liberal capitalism. We believe gender, race, animal inequality is socially constructed for the creation of hierarchies and control and look for new visions for living where nature and culture is no longer a dichotomy.
Based on indigenous hunter-gatherer cosmologies and ecofeminist theory. The main points are subsistence living, recreating a culture which is not separate from nature, where community, health and children are at the centre, where we try to control ours wants to control. It includes controlling children, animals and nature. Even our genders do not need to be controlled and engineered by western society as it has been for a very long time (not to deny biological sex, but rather gender roles and their value in society).
In practice, some of what this would mean is we do not keep pets or farm animals because this always entails control and violence and denies wild animals their place. It would also mean a type of subsistence that tries to be more “hunter-gatherer” horticultural and unschooling attitude towards learning for all ages. A gift economy is also an important aspect to get away from a commercial capitalist system of addiction.
A culture where laughter, song and dance disperse violence, becoming an integral part of communication.
Decisions are made in consensus and are always made with nature values in the core.
These are some of the principles of the vision. Hopefully, with more people engaged a land can be established where people can live and learn through being and doing.
It has been a vision long in the making and still needs refinement and practical experience to manifest and evolve.
