The three themes we have created for Dulaiwurrong Village are
Respectfulness – we have consulted the Aboriginal Elders of the Wurrendjeri Tribe to basically find out “how we could honour them in our community”. This has been a truly amazing process and has given the project a depth and relevance for revitalising this area with reference to the wisdom of the native people. We have also commissioned the creation of a land management plan to provide well thought out strategies to revitalise and take care of the neighbouring creekside reserve.
Sustainable – we have designed the village on core sustainable principles, including permaculture focus with fruit and nut trees lining walk ways and community spaces, a shared vegie garden and labryinth. Our covenants over each title require owners to build sustainable homes which have a range of energy efficiency benchmarks and sustainability indicators in terms of the sourcing ethical materials. One of the key focus points of the project is the aspect of co-operative community life in the village, which also can assist in creating sustainable lifestyles.
Community – our plan goes deeply into the creation of community. From a design point of view the community house provides a hall, kitchen and other rooms for meeting spaces. In addition the arts studio and meditation garden also provide excellent places for people to gather.
The planning has also gone a step further to create a framework of community and the foundational processes through which the people connections can be cultivated. In this way we have created a range of possible workshops and events to encourage a healthy community spirit.
