GEN Ukraine is a grassroots network of over 55 ecovillages, family farms, and intentional communities across the country. We are the Ukrainian branch of the Global Ecovillage Network, but our identity is rooted in local resilience, mutual aid, and ecological regeneration during crisis.
The network formed organically after 2014 and grew rapidly during the full-scale war from 2022 onwards, when many ecovillages became sanctuaries for displaced families, solidarity centers, and regeneration hubs. What began as a few communities sharing food and shelter has evolved into a decentralized movement for post-war ecological, cultural, and economic renewal.
We are guided by principles of:
- Decentralization and autonomy, with self-organized local circles and shared decision-making
- Ecological stewardship, using regenerative practices to heal war-damaged land
- Community as care, where trust, listening, and mutual support replace hierarchy
- Cultural revival, reconnecting to traditional knowledge, crafts, and rural identity
- Innovation, combining permaculture and solarpunk with Web3 and ReFi tools
Together, we aspire to co-create a regenerative future in the ashes of destruction—not by returning to the past, but by weaving new forms of community that are deeply rooted in place and open to global collaboration.
Our mission is not only to survive the war, but to restore the land, rebuild trust, and reimagine how communities can live together with nature—in Ukraine and beyond. We see ecovillages not as isolated utopias, but as living laboratories of resilience, solidarity, and planetary repair.

GEN Ukraine is not a single location but a decentralized network of ecovillages, family farms, and intentional communities across the country. Each community is autonomous, with its own rhythms, values, and ways of welcoming new people. However, the network shares a common culture of care, regeneration, and peer-to-peer support.
If you are interested in joining, here’s how to begin:
Explore the network map at [gen-ukraine.org] to see which communities are active in your region or aligned with your values.
Reach out directly to a community of interest. Some are open to volunteers, interns, new members, or families seeking to relocate.
Participate in open events — including seasonal gatherings, planting campaigns, workshops, and DAO onboarding circles — to get to know the network culture.
Connect via our online spaces: we hold regular coordination calls, regional meetups, and thematic circles (ecology, education, governance, ReFi).
Start your own regenerative initiative, and you may become part of the network organically through collaboration.
We especially welcome people with a spirit of cooperation, curiosity, and long-term commitment. Whether you’re an experienced community builder or someone seeking meaning after displacement or burnout, you’ll find peers and mentors in our living ecosystem.
Joining GEN Ukraine is less about applying—and more about showing up, contributing, and rooting yourself in shared regeneration.
Welcome.
