Mama Roja is a Sustainable Living and Learning Center focused on education, organic gardening, natural building, and seed saving.
This project comes from our desire to live a happy, healthy, harmonious life. We want to live true to our ideals and honest with ourselves. For us, this means living close to nature, producing our own food with ecological consciousness, and building a comfortable, peaceful place to grow and share.
We are creating a healthy alternative lifestyle focused on positive human action within the natural world and with other beings. We are striving to be good stewards of the land and pioneer it respectfully– constructing buildings with natural materials, installing renewable energy sources, making organic gardens and crop fields, minimizing waste, reducing consumption, and preserving the wild spaces for both wildlife and vegetation.
Another integral part to our mission is outreach and education. We do not want to be isolated from the mainstream, but instead promote a viable alternative. We spread our ideas and discoveries by hosting visitors and interns, publishing information, and organizing community workshops.
