It’s time for us to think seriously about nature, how we avoid destroying it and even rebuild them back. It’s never too late, and the time is now.
Indonesia is my home country, I’m fortunate enough to be able to buy a piece of land on the islands of Togean, in center Sulawesi. But there are still fish bombing and very poor village in the surroundings. And I would like to create an ecolodge island using recycle wood, build a sustainable food forest, rebuild the corals and aquamarine, create activities for locals to be involved, and at the same time educating people to be able to live independently without capitalism, and support from government.
Here’s brief info of the island.
Name : Togo Eang. (https://www.facebook.com/togoeang/).
Location : https://satellites.pro/Indonesia_map#-0.471204,121.717426,17 Togean Islands, Sulawesi Indonesia.
The island is about 1 hectare covered fully with trees and there’s about 50 meters of sandy beach. It is an off-grid location with no electricity, water or phone connection. The nearest village is about 5 min boat ride with around 400 population producing copra from coconut, patchouli, and cocoa. Currently, we are getting water once a week from this village. We have installed 1500 watt of solar panels for electricity and satellite for internet connection. I also have a wooden boat to go around.
I would need help from like-minded people who have experience in anything related to this project such as designing, construction, gardening, tourism, social work, and others.
Although Togean Island recently listed under Biosfer International from UNESCO, the local community in the village around Togean Islands didn’t get enough support from the local government. There are way too much corruption and lack of education which lead to many economic and social problems.
My goal is to create a strong educational community that can help villages around Togean to get income without destroying the environment.

Unfortunately, the ethos of ecology in Togo Eang is spoiled by the way the owners treat the volunteers and the locals helping them, from personal experience and witness. I gave more than a month of daily work without days off to help the eco lodge with maintenance and things like gates signage , but left with a sour taste. There’s no distinction between being a volunteer and being an employee there, apart from not being paid.
