There is a growing movement of people around the world that no longer accepts “business as usual.” We choose people and planet over short-term profit maximization, and we choose to support and partner with social enterprises and responsible businesses that share our values. By making different choices, we are changing the rules and creating a new economic system.
Good Market is a curated online platform that makes it easier to find and connect with social enterprises, responsible businesses, changemakers, and other participants in the new economy.
We’ve developed a curation process and crowdsourced monitoring system that is transparent, inclusive, and works across economic sectors, income levels, language barriers, and regional divides. This catalyzes the new economy movement by making it more visible and by making it easier for people to get involved.
The Good Market approach was initially tested in Sri Lanka, and there are a number of initiatives that emerged from the community there, including weekly marketplace events, retail outlets, and an organic participatory guarantee system. There are no plans to duplicate these initiatives in other parts of the world under the Good Market name. The focus is on highlighting and connecting existing enterprises and community initiatives, inspiring local ecosystem service providers to emerge and fill gaps, and freely sharing information from the Sri Lankan experience.
The platform is set up as a self-financing, not-for-profit social enterprise. Any surplus is reinvested to expand services for the Good Market community.
