Fundación ArteSumapaz is an arts and culture center located in San Bernardo, Cundinamarca, Colombia. We provide residencies for international, national, and emerging artists with performing arts center and artist studios and building an alternative arts school. ArteSumapaz is in the process of developing concerts, art park, exhibitions, as well as projects focusing on organic agriculture, reforestation, and intentional community.
ArteSumapaz is located on 181 fanegadas (116 hectares, or 288 acres). The property is located in the municipality of San Bernardo, Cundinamarca. In most recent years, the property had been used as a cow farm, although historically the farm was part of a larger coffee plantation.
Each of the parts of the center would complement the activities of each group. The residencies would expose students to the thinking of international artists, while the community would create a backbone of social continuity. In turn, members of the community could participate in and benefit from the activities of the school and residency.
ArteSumapaz is focused on the arts as its principal mission.

The artists-in-residents may contribute to the alternative school by giving workshops, classes, “open crit” sessions (group discussions about the student´s art), or one-on-one discussions.
Guests are offered vegetarian meals, or they may use the kitchen themselves.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the program director at [email protected].
ArteSumapaz has an ongoing program for volunteers in support of our mission.
Volunteers receive meals and hostel-style housing in exchange for a minimum of four hours of work per day. There is a maximum of four spaces available for volunteers, with additional availability for half-volunteers/half-paid-residency.
It is preferred that one-time volunteers commit to a time period of four weeks. More flexible arrangements can be provided to volunteers from the region, who may be ongoing volunteers.
There are seven major volunteer programs. It’s preferred that someone commit to one of the areas, and become committed to the objectives of that program. It is an advantage when someone is able to be self-directed in their activities.
The programs are:
