Red Rocks Initiatives for sustainable development works with communities around the Virunga Mountains. Here we promote development by involving local people in programs that improve community livelihood through Environmental Conservation, Arts & Culture, Education, and Community Health & Food Security Initiatives. Our work is community and partner-driven, and their ideas – from researchers and volunteers to artists and skilled professionals, and everyone in between.
We aim to leave our communities and people better off because of our initiatives. Red Rocks Art Gallery in Kinigi and Nkotsi Village creates employment opportunities for women and youth through arts and culture experiences focused on conservation. Skills sharing through workshops. Not only preserves our culture and indigenous knowledge but also acts as a place where tourists can come and experience our cultural heritage. In this setting of peace and development, our talented artists showcase the art that promotes conservation and embraces their cultural heritage.
We have monthly events eg. the Tree Planting Festival is an event that takes place every Saturday of the first week of the month. Join us at Red Rocks Centre and get to plant indigenous, trees and plants with our community.
Red Rocks Cultural Festival is an annual event that we host the last week of August and ends during the first week of September and coincides with the Annual Gorilla Naming ceremony.
