In 2009, Tang Guanhua began to conceive a sustainable lifestyle of self-sufficiency, and with the hope of this kind of life, he wrote an article called “Homeland” and assumed how to build a self-sufficient living community with education, medical care, pension benefits, and many more.
Tang Guanhua left the city in 2011 and closed the design company. In a granite building in Qingdao Laoshan and a friend in the forest, he and his wife used themselves as experimental materials to build China’s own “sufficient laboratory” to gradually discover and solve construction, energy, food, and daily necessities problems, and to record and share them.
During this time, the work and lifestyle have attracted the attention of many media: CCTV, BBC, “The New York Times”, “Der Spiegel”, “City Magazine”, Xinhua News Agency, Hunan Satellite TV, NHK Japan, Hong Kong TV and so on.
Since 2009, it has operated the Chinese Ecological Village (Consensus Community) Information Center. http://center.anotherland.org
In 2015, he launched the “Southern Life” consensus community experiment. As a consensus community experiment, Southern Life consists of social possibility explorers from all over the world. Aiming to explore a paradigm in mainland China that forms a community based on a common social mission or lifestyle without geographic, privilege, policy, landscape, economic, educational background, and other backgrounds. This experiment plans to use at least 20 years to form a consensus and make the community sustainable. Practitioners of various life concepts are welcome to carry out life experiments here. All collective relations and public affairs are formed by permanent residents. We also hope to have the ability to live independently, have a certain sense of social responsibility, and plan long-term partners to be neighbors.
