Description of Challenge
Muslims fast in Ramadan and poor people cant afford breakfast meals which they take after a whole fasting day at sunset time. During regular days many people may manage to eat small meals but it is hard for them to afford a one healthy meal specially if they are a large family.Providing charity breakfast meals during the fasting holy month of Ramadan
Solution
Muslims fast the whole month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset. Fasting is a compulsory ritual for adult Muslims, unless they have any health problems which will make it difficult for them to fast, such as taking essential medications which they can’t skip, or their doctors recommend that they cannot withstand such long fasting period.
During the holy month of Ramadan some rich people arrange breakfast meals for the poor people. These can be either done by individuals, or group of people to provide daily meals for the poor during the hole month of Ramadan.
This charity work is sometimes also organized by mosques where people collect money and arrange group meals. Tables are set on sides of streets and meals are set on tables before sunset to be available on time for the poor.
People who are at away from their home at breakfast time, such as taxi drivers or gas station attendants etc., may sit at these tables also for breakfast time.
The idea of sharing meals is widely used in ecovillages but in this case such charity tables (mawa’id Rahman) extend to be a good manifestation of cooperation and social welfare linked to a religious ritual.
