Description of Challenge
sustainable food production, animal cruelty, health, waste managementMake your own vegan milk for better health, more sustainable nutrition and to save packaging waste.
Solution
The industrial animal industry is unsustainable and cruel, and dairy has been proven to cause many types of diseases and health issues.
There are plenty of vegan alternatives out there, some are imported from overseas and all of them are packaged.
Why not make your own at home!
Another advantage is that you can choose your own fresh ingredients and be in control over what enters your body.
Here are a couple of recipes:
Almond Milk:
* 20 almonds, which were soaked overnight and peeled.
* 2-3 Madjool dates (you can pre-soak them in water)
*1.5 cups of water
* Blend well and serve or strain first through a straining fabric.
* If you have a weak blender, it is best to grind the almonds in a coffee grinder before blending.
You can do the same with a different kind of nut – pistachio, macadamia, cashew, etc, same ratio of nuts/dates/water.
Sesame Milk:
* 3 tablespoons unhulled sesame, preferably organic. If you have a strong blender – soak 4 hours before blending (don’t use the soaking water in the milk). If you have a weak blender, don’t soak them – grind them in a coffee grinder before blending.
* 5 dates
*1.5 cups of water
Blend and serve!
