Description of Challenge
We live today in a world of competition and this is equally the case in the agricultural sector. With an ever growing population, we need to put in place sustainable agricultural techniques that can feed the growing population and not only feed, but provide them with a source of healthy products without necessarily using chemical fertilizers which are detrimental to human health and even environmental degradation.
Solution
I will be delivering pure organic and branded fruit juices made of carrots, melons, parsley etc got from our gardening initiative and these will be subsequently packaged in the powdered form and delivered as tea (the case of parsley due to its high medicinal properties) in the future. This project is still in its initial stages.
Given that our initiative is a green initiative, it will go a long way towards reducing carbon emissions, thereby reducing global warming. It also will provide other young people with jobs and a creative mindset will follow from their learning process. The community and the public at large will be benifiting from this initiative through their active involvement in networks, people, skilled and unskilled knowledge, consultancy services, farming carrots, melon, parsley and others. We have purchased land already, we have irrigated a three hectares land already and a nursery for the plants is ongoing .
Organic fruit juices will be produced on-site. This is an initiative which should go a long way to reduce consumption of other drinks which are less healthier but heavily consumed by the public. These juices will be produced using juice extracting machines. No forms of sugars will be added, no additives or flavors, but just the natural juice in its purest form.
An estimated cost of a green house is yet to be done by an expert in two days. I am proposing a project which can highly contribute to the economy of communities through their active participation in organic farming/gardening by a supportive scheme of setting up an organic cooperative where farmers will be chanced to have some resources without exploitation.
The Result:
We have been able to produce organic juices from carrots, melon and parsley for local /home consumption and the feedback has been very satisfactory. We will be working in collaboration with other existing green initiatives to widen our scope and contextually with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cameroon.
