Description of Challenge
From keeping up a personal development practice to changing the world, most things we do in life are harder, or cannot be done, alone. You can’t walk that path alone, but only you can do the walking”, from a song of the Zapatista of Mexico
Solution
Finding a support group that meets regularly or can be activated when you need it, can make all the difference.
Women’s circles
Women generally meet to share about their lives, support one another, perform rituals and celebrate. In the Red Tent movement, women have time to restore themselves by spending time with other women, usually during their periods. Deep connections and a sense of sisterhood are developed in these groups, which might be important, for instance, when one needs a place to stay or for young mothers living away from their families. Issues of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and the negative impact of patriarchy will often surface once a degree of trust has been established. It is important to be prepared for this.
Men’s circles
According to the Mankind Project, this is a place to learn and practice conflict resolution, communication skills, relationship development skills, how to make and meet big goals, how to overcome the past, brotherhood and camaraderie.
