Description of Challenge
Structural conflict and societal violence. The idea that conflict is inherent to society.Traditional African education used to be holistic instead of merely cognitive. This holistic approach of developing the whole human being was the mechanism to promote structural peace. A return to holistic education may benefit peace building in African societies.
Solution
Traditional African had an inbuilt mechanism to controlling violence. This instrument was education. Notably, African education aimed at developing the total man and making him or her responsible member of the community. The curricular includes physical, mental, spiritual and moral development of the citizens. The thrust of the moral education was solidarity.
