They are now looking for permaculture or natural farming experts to help them restore saline-alkaline land for Gesaer farm in Xinjiang China. The plan is to initiate a project of land restoration by transforming the farm into a beautiful and fertile one, and to demonstrate it as a successful restoration model of that region. Timber frame construction is one of the oldest forms of building that remains in use today. The art of timber framing dates back to some of man’s first primitive structures; using large greenwood timbers slotted together to form stunning, natural structures without the need for nails. This course gives you a hands-on approach to learning this craft. Over a week’s tuition, you will gain a broad understanding of calculating, crafting and building a timber frame structure. You will practice woodworking techniques with hand tools and power tools and, as part of a close-knit team, you will produce a beautiful 10m² traditional timber frame. Learn about the tools you need; how to use them safely and how to look after them, including sharpening techniques. You will also learn about choosing the right timber, understanding individual logs and how milled timber moves during seasoning. Through understanding the process and gaining the practical skills to construct a range of different joints, you’ll be prepared to design and build your own structures, limited only by your imagination! Timber framing is a skill that you can continue to grow in your own time, it’s is a real investment in your personal and professional development. Beginners and Advanced Carpentry Even though no experience is necessary to do this course, if you pick up the techniques quickly or already have competent carpentry skills, there is plenty of opportunity to work on more complex joints on the build. After a week of hands-on learning, we will erect the completed frame and see the results of our collective hard work: an exquisite, handcrafted 10m² tiny house frame that you can replicate at home or adapt to suit your own needs – a stunning, tiny space that will stand the test of time. We will be hosting our first international conference in India this year “Ecovillages for Sustainable Development – A model for Climate Change Adaptation”, from October 31st ~ November 2nd, 2014 in Orissa, India. Prior to the conference, NextGEN GENOA will host a gathering for youth from the Asia and Oceania regions. After the conference, there will be an exposure tour to indigenous ecovillages in the area, followed by a 4-day Inner Dance Retreat, a process that looks deeply at community by looking at the individual member as the essential building block of a successful ecovillage.

The Gaia Ashram Internship is a one month Summer Internship program on Ecovillage Design, Permaculture and Deep Ecology. The internship will be a holistic participatory learning experience & process. Interns will experience being part of the Gaia Ashram Community and we will live together for one month at– Gaia Ashram-. El objetivo del curso es dar una buena base tanto a los diseñadores de permacultura como a los que se inician por primera vez creando diseños tipo de fincas de permacultura mediterránea partiendo de cero, en la que aprenderemos a diseñar a la misma vez que manejaremos los programas informáticos que nos darán buen un aspecto visual de nuestro diseño. Son los primeros cursos monográficos que se imparten en el estado español para aprender a utilizar las herramientas software para proyectos de permacultura. El curso consta de dos niveles. El primer nivel se imparte del 4 al 6 de marzo y el segundo del 22 al 24 de abril. Este verano organizamos el segundo campamento de Avalon, un aprendizaje para jóvenes ubicado en una hermosa área natural situada a los pies de los Pirineos españoles. Los dirige un equipo experimentado de guías de deportes de montaña, educadores y profesores de sostenibilidad e inglés. Estos campamentos, repletos de acción, ofrecen una gran variedad de actividades al aire libre (escalada, barranquismo, senderismo y tiro con arco), actividades artísticas (fotografía, música, danza y escultura) y experiencias para fomentar las habilidades de desarrollo de la comunidad, como son trabajar en equipo, expresar pensamientos, comunicarse con diferentes culturas, construir con materiales naturales y afrontar nuevos retos. Inspirado en el Programa Internacional de Gaia Education, AVALON Sustainability School ofrece un tiempo y un lugar para el intercambio intercultural, compartir valores, aprender nuevas habilidades y divertirse. Los participantes forman parte de un grupo pionero de educación para la sostenibilidad. Además, para los jóvenes que no tengan el inglés como lengua propia, los campamentos se convierten en una oportunidad única de hacer inmersión en la práctica de esta lengua.
