This project’s aim is carbon-negative community, promoting eBikes, eMachinery and clean, natural aesthetics. It prohibits internal combustion engines and the high-carbon lifestyle that revolves around them: cars, vans, generators, farm machinery, flying visits… as well as “primitive” smokey combustion of biomass. It may be partially funded by carbon credits, with food-production from the land around.
Travel by eBike here is exhilarating: mountain views, relatively well maintained tarmacked roads and little traffic, with mostly considerate drivers. A downside is a significant proportion of old or worn-out vehicles with bad emissions, but few enough for it to be possible to avoid breathing them except on busy roads around towns. Bikes are charged from 1kW[nominal] of PV collectors which also provide all domestic electricity.
I’m viewing land within half-an-hour’s ride of the mountain valley town of Fundao. If you wanted “in” before any land purchase, that area could be increased, ensuring better wild-fire security and development potential.
Potential “villagers” are technical, scientific or creative, analytically minded with a core love and knowledge of nature or horticulture, looking for support from others working to transcend the raucous, smokey habits of last century. Fluent Portuguese speakers especially encouraged. Self awareness, ability to express oneself, and give reciprocal quality attention is expected.
You might want to respond as a “remote supporter”, a keen but novice person to “learn and experience” this lifestyle, or an “old hand” with very similar priorities, to join on site. Fundao is accessible by rail.
My starter home is a specially self-converted “low-carbon” motor-home which hasn’t been driven since I got here from the UK at the end of 2020. It has unusually good insulation, underfloor heating, solar thermal panels and heat-reclaim. This means no space-heating needed unless the temperature outside stays below 0 deg C without sun.

Very interesting. I have got an Ebike and some agricolture experience in Italy . I thought to try a new experience this year in Spain or Portugal. Could you tell me how is the weather there in the winter time?
Now I cannot travel because I have not the GP,I hope in the summer time we will be free.
Have a good time
Ecaterina
Hey Ecaterina, sorry for delay, I didn’t get notified of your comment. I will create email list soon, see email link if you would like to subscribe.
Winter can be both long dry periods of sun 18C day, some slight night ground-frost, or as we have now: 4 weeks of continuous cloud, about 10 deg C day and night. Much colder over the next range of mountains to the North [Serra Garduna].
It would be lovely to meet-up when you are able. Tell us some more about you! Best., Trev
